David Mottl named Executive Chef of The St. Regis Langkawi

From the busy streets of St. Petersburg to the idyllic paradise of Langkawi, The St. Regis Langkawi’s new Executive Chef David Mottl has traversed the globe to call this island his new home. Mottl is responsible for the smooth running of all culinary offerings at the resort’s over-water specialty restaurant Kayuputi, signature restaurant L’Orangerie, Gourmand Deli, The Drawing Room, St. Regis Bar, Decanter Wine Bar, as well as all the resort’s banqueting facilities.

Chef Mottl joins the team in Langkawi from his most recent post as the Executive Sous Chef at the W Hotel in St. Petersburg. A German national, Mottl brings with him over 20 years of culinary experience spanning across Germany, USA, Ireland, Switzerland and most recently Russia, winning him reputable awards and accolades. Since embarking on his culinary career in 1996, Chef Mottl has served several positions in seven acclaimed Michelin-starred restaurants.

Not a stranger to this part of the continent, well-travelled Mottl has discovered almost all Asian countries on his gastronomic mission to uncover local specialties – especially street food. This then sets a great groundwork for him to create Asian-inspired haute cuisine at Kayuputi. Diners will experience his culinary prowess through the imbuing of much-loved Asian food traditions with contemporary sophistication and modern techniques; the reinterpreting of familiar recipes into sumptuous tapas, inventive mains and reconstructed dessert creations.

Mottl’s interest in his culinary heritage dates back as far as he can remember. The second of three children, he helped his mother in the kitchen from the age of eight, preparing chocolate pudding and scrambled eggs with fresh mushrooms freshly picked from their family backyard farm. He believed that only exceptionally fresh ingredients, cooked with a dash of love, will deliver the best cuisine to every guest.
