The Library Hotel Collection welcomes Kornél Magyar as musical director of its newest boutique hotel Aria Hotel Budapest. Drawing from more than 15 years of his interdisciplinary creative career, Magyar oversees all hotel musical programming and guest experiences at Budapest’s first-ever musically-themed hotel located in the historic city center near St. Stephen’s Basilica.
Magyar is responsible for curating the hotel’s extensive music library collection, managing the ambient audio in all common spaces, liaising partnerships with neighboring music venues, and coordinating musical experiences for guests in and beyond the hotel. Unique to the Library Hotel Collection portfolio, the Musical Director leads Aria Hotel Budapest’s concierge services to ensure truly tailored and memorable experiences for guests at the hotel.
Most recently, Magyar developed content and social media strategy, managed client relations, and executed special events as both online media manager for the Danubia Symphony Orchestra Obuda and concert communications manager for the Modern Art Orchestra jazz big band. In these concurrent roles, he directed integrated communications tactics to spread awareness of the orchestras to drive ticket sales.
“For the hotel, we required someone exceptionally well-versed in world music, talented in cultural communications, and passionate about the destination, while being extremely warm and inviting for guests of all types,” said Henry Kallan, president of New York City’s celebrated Library Hotel Collection. “We trust in Kornél’s approach and perspective to the Musical Director role in that he sees things from the perspectives of both an artist and an audience member, which truly allows him to tie an emotional connection between guests and the musical magic of Aria and Budapest.”
Magyar, a native multilingual Hungarian with a deep-rooted family history of musicians, furthered his musical repertoire studying Indian classical music under the wing of Maestro Trichy Sankaran, faculty leader at York University, Toronto Canada. Magyar also studied literature and linguistics at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and ethnomusicology at Sekolah Tinggi Seni, an advanced school for the arts in Indonesia. Shortly after graduation he handled all brand and event communications as senior press officer at Fono Music Hall and communications manager at Gramofon—Klasszikus es Jazz. He then earned his role as a senior PR manager at Pannon Productions where he developed a network of relationships with the artistic society, musical organizations, and cultural media of Budapest. Magyar’s passion for integrating music with cultural communications goes beyond his professional endeavors. In his spare time, he also teaches world music at the Indonesian Embassy of Budapest and is a lecturer at the Budapest campus of the McDaniel College, Westminster, Maryland.
