Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi opens on the banks of the Nile River

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi on Cairo’s famous Maadi Corniche. The hotel becomes the second Holiday Inn and fifth IHG hotel in the Egyptian capital.

The hotel is located in the city’s embassy district, just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Cairo, making it perfect for travellers looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

The 175 room hotel boasts stunning views of the Pyramids of Giza, as well as the majestic Nile River. With a second floor pool and gym, and with all guest rooms and suites featuring private balconies, guests can enjoy the city skyline and riverside vistas in one of the world’s most historic cities.

The hotel’s nine banquet and meeting rooms can accommodate a range of requirements and the onsite business centre is open 24 hours.

Guests can enjoy a choice of restaurants and lounges, designed to satisfy all tastes. The all-day dining restaurant, Le Clovis offers an international buffet or a la carte menu, whilst Little Italy serves a spread of Italian dishes. The hotel also has a Lobby Lounge and a Pool Lounge, which overlook the Nile. Pascal Gauvin, IHG’s Chief Operating Officer, for India, Middle East and Africa said: “We are delighted to welcome Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi to the IHG family here in Egypt. We are confident that this new property will deliver the comfort and quality that the Holiday Inn brand is globally recognised for.”

Jawad Bukhamseen, Chairman of the Bukhamseen Group said: “We at the Bukhamseen Group in Kuwait and the Gulf are pleased to be extending our cooperation and partnership with IHG, one that has already lasted over 35 years, with the conversion of this hotel from Sofitel to the Holiday Inn brand.  It is a hotel which has a unique location, a successful past behind it and we are looking forward to many, even more fruitful years of success ahead, as Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi. This is the third hotel that IHG manages for the Bukhamseen Group and we are expecting more hotels to be associated with them in the near future. The Holiday Inn brand is renowned for the comfortable and warm experience it provides to its guests and we’re proud to become a part of its long heritage.”

The Bukhamseen Group was key in helping to kick-start the growth of the Holiday Inn brand in the Middle East. In 1977, Chairman Jawad Bukhamseen signed a contract with Kemmons Wilson, the Founder of Holiday Inn, to open one of the first Holiday Inn hotels in the Middle East.

The hotel, which was converted from what was the Sofitel Maadi, will become IHG’s 11th hotel in Egypt and joins four other hotels in Cairo, from the luxury InterContinental Cairo Semiramis and InterContinental Citystars Cairo to the family-friendly Holiday Inn Cairo – Citystars and Staybridge Suites Cairo, IHG’s extended-stay brand. There are currently 1,190 Holiday Inn hotels around the world, with another 264 in the global pipeline.
