Meliá signs luxury hotels in Qatas and Indonesia

GM Bintan_1During his tour of several countries in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, the Vice Chairman of the Spanish hotel company has announced the signature of two luxury hotels in major destinations: Qatar and Indonesia. The future Meliá Doha is scheduled to open the first quarter of 2015, and the Gran Meliá Bintan will open in 2017.

The Meliá Doha will occupy 39 floors of the fabulous Bin Samickh tower, located in West Bay, a coveted area of the Qatari capital, and will provide 282 rooms and suites and a wide range of restaurants and well being and beauty facilities. Alongside the Chairman and CEO of Tamniyat Qatar Real Estate, the property owner and developer, Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of Meliá, explained the importance of Qatar as a destination, supported by its economic prosperity – the country has the highest income per capita in the world – and its growing influence in various areas.

Escarrer noted that “The Arabian Gulf is a natural focus for the expansion of our luxury brands, and the signature of the Meliá Doha brings a guarantee of solvency and quality management to this important property, while at the same time representing a partnership and commitment between two important business groups with a solid base and family values”.

Meliá Hotels International has a long and successful track record in Indonesia where it built its first international hotel in the 1980s. The Meliá Bali remains today a benchmark hotel both in Bali and Indonesia, and Melía currently manages or is in the process of opening another 5 hotels in the country. On this occasion, the Vice Chairman of Meliá visited Jakarta to sign and agreement with the owners of Bintan Resorts, an extraordinary destination on the island of Bintan, the new mecca for luxury travel in south east Asia and an exceptional destination for neighbouring and well-connected countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.

The Gran Meliá Bintan (pictured above) will be the second Gran Meliá hotel in Indonesia, representing the synthesis of timeless luxury with the passion for service acquired by Meliá throughout its nearly 60 years of history.  It will provide 120 spacious suites and 38 villas with one, two or four bedrooms, in an extensive resort with a Mediterranean style which will differentiate it from other international luxury hotels already operating on this idyllic island.

As Gabriel Escarrer explained “Meliá Hotels International has been a major player in the travel booms in the most important international destinations, such as Spain and the Caribbean. And today, international travel is unthinkable without destinations such as Bali or Bintan, and our company continues and will always continue to promote them in the future”.
