Shakir Hussain appointed GM at Playa Largo Resort

Shakir Hussain_1Playa Largo Resort & Spa, Marriott International’s newest Autograph property to break ground, has announced the appointment of Shakir Hussain as General Manager for the resort.

Having held various executive positions, Shakir Hussain brings more than a decade of substantial leadership experience to Playa Largo Resort & Spa. He assumes his new role by way of the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Florida, where he served as director of food and beverage. Prior to that, Hussain served as vice president and general manager at Excelsior Hospitality where he established profit and service-focused operations and increased financial results. He also held general manager positions at Esplendor Resort, Blackstone Renaissance and Sheraton Miami, amongst others.

In his new position, Hussain will oversee all aspects of hotel operations, as well as the maximization of guest satisfaction, financial performance, and staff development at Playa Largo Resort & Spa upon its opening in summer 2015.

Throughout his career, Hussain’s results-driven work ethic has achieved significant results in managing, renovating and opening upscale resorts for multiple luxury brands. He also brings experience in developing operating budgets, sales plans, and training and staffing.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this new development in Key Largo,” said Hussain. “Having spent the last three years in the Florida Keys, I have a keen understanding of the market and am eager for the challenge of opening the first new build hotel in Key Largo in 20 years.”

Hussain received his degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in Ithaca, NY and also completed a 2-Year Management Training Program in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Oberoi School of Hotel Management in India.
