Marriott has donated 1.5 million bars of soap and counting

Marriott soapMarriott International has announced that hotels across the company’s portfolio have collectively donated more than 1.5 million bars of soap to Clean the World, a non-profit organization that recycles and distributes hotel hygiene amenities to communities in need.

Marriott is Clean the World’s largest hospitality partner, with more than 60,000 rooms participating in the recycling program. Since partnering with the organization in 2009, Marriott has donated more than 271,000 pounds of soap and more than 175,000 pounds of amenities through Clean the World.

Committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable business practices, Clean the World is among a number of Marriott’s community partners. In its 2014 Sustainability Report, Marriott shared the company had helped divert 2.3 million bottles from landfills by purchasing employees uniforms made from recycled polyester from post-consumer plastic bottles from supplier Cintas. Also in the report, Marriott reported a 10 percent reduction in water and energy usage since 2007, halfway to its 2020 goal of an overall 20 percent reduction.
