Florian Kunkel appointed General Manager of Hilton Alexandria Old Town

Hilton Worldwide announced the appointment of Florian Kunkel as general manager of the 252-room Hilton Alexandria Old Town located in the historic King Street neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia, effective immediately.

Kunkel joins the team after his recent position as resident manager at Hilton Baltimore.  The recently renovated hotel is one of the most convenient hotels in Alexandria for business and leisure travelers visiting Washington, just steps away from King Street Metro station and close to Reagan National Airport.

In 1993, Kunkel began his hotel career with an apprenticeship at the Queen’s Hotel Residence in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He finished the final examination with honors and started to travel, working for the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof in Germany and the world renowned “Suvretta House” in St. Moritz, Switzerland before he returned to the Hotelfachschule Garmisch-Partenkirchen to earn his degree in Hotel Management.

In September 2002, he moved to the United States and started his career with Hilton Worldwide at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, Va. where he enjoyed a progressive career from food & beverage outlet manager to director of outlets. From there, Kunkel transferred in March 2005 to Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa as the assistant director of food and beverage for the 2800-room property assisting in overseeing six restaurants, eight lounges, in-room dining, refreshment center, banquet service and the Starbucks outlet. Kunkel joined the team at Hilton Portland in December 2007 as the director of food and beverage overseeing all dining operations and in July 2011, he was promoted to resident manager at Hilton Baltimore, his most recent position.
