Indigo Pearl General Manager Chris Oakes said the great English poet John Milton had nailed the bleary-eyed private paradise lost of the sleepless when he asked: ‘What hath night to do with sleep?’

As a ‘serial insomniac’ himself, Mr Oakes said he had taken a very personal interest in creating Phuket’s first luxury escape devoted to nothing but somnolence and indolence for the sleep-starved, stress-soaked, sheep-counting overachievers and workaholics of the region.

“Sleep has become the great casualty of modern life, stolen by the stresses of work and family and the round-the-clock connectivity imposed by the internet age,” Mr Oakes said.

“If you find yourself nodding off in the office or drooling on the desk after lunch, believe consciousness is little more than an annoying interlude between naps, find yourself singing random verses from The Beatles’ ‘I’m Only Sleeping’ or greet the morning alarm with a frantic slapping at the snooze button, then this could be the escape of your dreams – and the best thing you ever did for yourself, your partner and your family.”

Indigo Pearl offers a wonderland in which to sleep, perchance to dream. Indeed the entire resort is brushed with fantasy; the fever dream of tropical modern design maestro Bill Bensley created between the lush greens and shaded groves of Phuket’s only national park and the pristine sands and azure waters of beautiful Nai Yang beach.

Near both the airport and many of Phuket’s finest beaches, Indigo Pearl is a world of its own, a seductive setting of lush plantation – silvery-blue palms, fragrant plumbago, sharp, sword-like mother-in-law’s tongue and splashes of scarlet and gold bird-of-paradise.

“Indigo Pearl is the heart and soul of North Phuket – which is the ‘real’ Phuket,” Mr Oakes said. “It’s more relaxed, steeped in the fascinating history of the island’s tin mining past. This is the place to slumber, doze and dream … between long walks on unspoiled beaches and hikes through primeval forests and perhaps a spot of island hopping and plenty of basking by one of our three pools.”

“Our Suites are perfectly suited to sleeping. They are big, meditative spaces which fuse an industrial aesthetic with a minimal contemporary luxury and plenty of Bill Bensley’s signature flourishes.”

Shorter “Art of Sleep” experiences are available for two, three and four nights upon request.
