Where Is the Caribbean’s Most Expensive Luxury Hotel?

The two-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda has earned the distinction of being home to the Caribbean's most expensive hotel. In a new survey conducted by CaribbeanResorts.net, Barbuda's Lighthouse Bay Resort landed in the number one spot as the costliest luxury resort. A comparison of all hotels was made based on their average rate for the most affordable double room. For comparative purposes, the survey used the Caribbean's high travel season of January to March 2013 as its time period of focus.

An overnight stay in the Lighthouse Bay during the 2013 winter season cost travelers an average of $2490. The second and third place finishers were considerably less pricey at $2059 and $1914 per night respectively. Taking Top 3 honors at these rates were the Amanyara resort in the Turks & Caicos Islands and the Sheriva Villa Hotel in Anguilla.

The Antigua and Barbuda state wasn't just a one-hit wonder, however. The island state had three other resorts make a showing in the Top 10. Specifically, Barbuda landed a slot with its Coco Point Lodge. An average overnight rate of $1515 secured it a lofty position. Antigua's Jumby Bay and Hermitage Bay resorts also ranked high in the list at $1898 and $1423, respectively, per night for the most affordable double room.

Following are the rankings for the 20 most expensive luxury hotels and resorts in the Caribbean. The rates shown reflect the average rate for each hotel's most affordable double room for the period January 15 to March 30, 2013.

About the Methodology:

The survey was conducted in cooperation with Allinclusiveresorts.net from December into March 2013. For all luxury hotels and resorts in the Caribbean, the average rate for the most affordable double room was calculated for the period spanning January 15 to March 31, 2013. The rates were established about one month in advance and were either taken from the respective hotels' websites or drawn from the leading hotel-booking sites. In all cases, the lowest available price was used in tabulating the results.
