The world’s highest tower is being built in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Previously dubbed ‘Kingdom Tower’, the 170-storey building is to rise more than a kilometre, surpassing Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (at 828 meters high) as the world’s highest building.
The first 26 floors of the approximately 1.2 billion US-dollar building have already been completed. There will be a total 200 floors in the completed building, and plans include a Four Seasons Hotel with around 200 rooms and suites. The 157th floor will feature a viewing platform for guests.
The owner is Saudi Prince Alwalid bin Talal who also has an international hotel business, Kingdom Holding. The opening is scheduled for 2017.
In Jeddah, there are currently 39 new hotels with a total of 7,300 rooms are in the pipeline. Here is an overview of selected hotel projects:
