Hotels.com reveals budget-friendly international cities

Travelers are always looking to visit the most sought-after international destinations of London, Paris and Rome, but there are under-the-radar destinations beyond these top locales that travelers may not consider. The Hotels.com® Hotel Price Index ™ (HPI) identified alternative vacation spots that travelers can visit offering equally exciting adventures on a budget.

In the first half of 2015, U.S. travelers paid an average of $164 a night for international hotel stays according to the HPI. In the first half of 2014, the average was $179 a night when going abroad. Similarly, 13 out of the 15 unique locations below experienced a price drop this year in relation to the first six months of last year, and a third of these destinations experienced a substantial decrease of over a 10%. It’s become less expensive to get an adventure fix or touch relaxation at some of these underestimated destinations around the world.

Hikers can take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Peruvian Andes, while also touring ancient Inca paving stones, ruins and tunnels.

Guadalajara, Mexico ($89)*

A city known for tequila and affinity for mariachi music, Guadalajara knows how to give visitors a once in a lifetime experience. Guests can take a trip to back in time on a luxury passenger train educational tequila tours. Here, visitors will travel across the infamous agave landscapes while being served traditional food and of course, tequila cocktails.
