Qatar Airways Group – National energy and water conservation initiative

 width=KAHRAMAA experts deliver technical energy and water conservation training to Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport staff

DOHA, Qatar Ð Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport (HIA) partnered with KAHRAMAA‘s National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, ÔTarsheed’, to deliver technical energy and water conservation training to employees on 6 December 2017.ÊThe training, focusing on resource conservation, was aligned to contribute towards His Highness The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s 2030 vision for sustainable development.

The technical training was delivered by KAHRAMAA as part of a memorandum of understanding that provides a framework for Qatar Airways and HIA to work together on technical initiatives, as well as building staff and community awareness in relation to water conservation, energy efficiency systems, and renewable energy.

The training session, involving around 50 delegates from the airline and airport’s facilities management teams, was hosted at Qatar Airways’ corporate offices in Doha, Qatar. Subjects covered a wide range of technical topics, including air conditioning systems, fans, pumps, lighting, motors, water conservation and energy efficiency.

Further to the technical training, KAHRAMAA is planning energy and water audits at HIA’s award-winning passenger terminal and at Qatar Airways’ head offices, allowing both to apply recommendations to further improve energy efficiency.

KAHRAMAA’s President, His Excellency Engr. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, said:

KAHRAMAA, Qatar’s Electricity and Water Corporation, launched Tarsheed on 22 April 2012 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. Tarsheed focuses on conservation technology standardisation and rules. In addition to community development and awareness, the national programme targets all communities and sectors in the State of Qatar regarding the efficient use of energy including renewable energy. It succeeded in bringing down the per capita consumption of electricity by 18 percent and consumption of water by 20 percent by the end of 2016.
