The 25 press correspondents and journalists from a selection of the world's most important media that make up the jury of the Villegiature Awards have announced the winners of the trophies for the Best hotels in Europe, Africa and Asia.
The ceremony took place on Monday 14 October 2013 in the illustrious salons of the renowned Hotel Shangri-La Paris.
Numerous personalities were present during the awards : Her Excellency Madame Sophie Thévenoux, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco, His Excellency Monsieur Chakib Benmoussa, Ambassador of this Majesty the King of Morocco and Monsieur Jan Willem, Minister Plenipotentiary for the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the interior designers Pierre-Yves Rochon, Bruno Moinard, Olivier Gossart, Didier Knoll, Colin Finnegan and also the official partners of the Villegiature Awards : Sicis Mosaïcs, Technogym, THG Paris, Champagne Ayala, Ercuis & Raynaud and Air France.
The criterias for the judges' selection
Pursuit of excellence and a deep sense of creativity, respect for the history and heritage of the hotels, efforts to integrate the environmental concerns.
Here are the results
The Grand Prix of the Best Hotel in Asia has been awarded to Sofitel So Bangkok, whose interior design and architecture reflects the theme of ‘the five elements', created by the Thai architect Smith Obayamat and French couturier Christian Lacroix.
The Grand Prix of the Best Hotel in Africa goes to Selman in Marrakech, whose interior design was the work of Jacques Garcia.
In Europe, the Grand Prix of the Best hotel has been won by De L'Europe in Amsterdam, while Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam has taken the prize for the Best service.
Forte Village in Sardinia has been awarded the Grand Prix of the Best resort and Italy has also taken
Best terrace in a hotel in Europe with Rome's Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese and the Hotel Bellevue & Spa in Cogne, in the heart of the Aoste valley, recognised as Best Spa.
The Métropole in Monte-Carlo and its floral designer ‘Miss Rose' by Perrine, receives the award for Best floral decoration in a hotel in Europe.
France boasts a flourishing tourism industry, one of the nation's most important job creators, with a vast choice of hotels and takes eight trophies in total :
The Sofitel Quiberon Thalassa Sea & Spa sees its breakfast rewarded – a concept specially developed by Sofitel – with a wonderful view over the gulf of Morbihan.
The Chef Arnaud Faye of the Auberge du Jeu de Paume & Spa in Chantilly receives the award for Best hotel restaurant in Europe.
The Negresco in Nice is recognized for its unique atmosphere.
Villa Baulieu in Rognes en Provence wins the award for Best bathroom
Diadao for The Saint-James Bouliac is recognized for its Best hotel interactive communication.
Finally, in Paris, the Lancaster is honoured as the Best hotel bar in Europe, while Pierre-Yves Rochon receives the Best interior design award for the Shangri-La Hotel Paris.
The Grand Prix for the Best hotel de charme in Europe is awarded to the Château Saint Martin & Spa in Vence.
In the publishing category, the award for the Best book on culinary arts goes to "Le Livre noir de la gastronomie française" by Aymeric Mantous and Emmanuel Rubin – Flammarion Publishing.
