Best Western to open first hotel in Bhutan in 2015

Best-Western_1Best Western International is expanding its brand further across Asia, with the launch of its first ever hotel in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.

The company has signed an agreement for a brand new 41-room upscale hotel in the country’s capital, Thimphu.

Expected to open in mid-2015, this new-build property will join the company’s growing collection of upscale BEST WESTERN PLUS hotels.

Best Western’s entry into Bhutan marks yet another milestone in the company’s Asian expansion strategy. Late last year, Best Western entered Myanmar for the first time and earlier this year made its debut in Sri Lanka.

“We are pleased to become one of the first major international hotel brands to arrive in this country and introduce our BEST WESTERN PLUS hotel to local residents and travelers,” said Glenn de Souza, Best Western International’s vice president of international operations Asia & Middle East.

“Bhutan really is a paradise on Earth. Home to breathtaking mountains and glaciers, ancient monasteries, and an incredible variety of rare wildlife, this spiritual country offers an endless array of allures and attractions for lovers of nature and Himalayan culture. With the ever increasing number of visitors to this fascinating country, we look forward to opening a BEST WESTERN PLUS hotel in Bhutan, and offer our guests an extended range of amenities,” added Mr. de Souza.

The hotel will feature a selection of high-end guest facilities, including a fitness center, spa, bar, and a terrace lounge with views across Thimphu’s low-rise skyline.

Guests will be able to dine in a choice to two restaurants, including one traditional Bhutanese restaurant with outdoor seating. The hotel will also feature a conference room with meeting facilities.

Currently, Best Western has a portfolio of more than 200 hotels across Asia. And the company expects to increase its regional collection to 300 properties in the next few years. Best Western first launched in Asia & the Middle East in 2001 and now covers 24 countries across Asia and the Middle East.
