InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), together with Grupo Presidente, a Mexico-based hotel management and ownership company, has announced that they will strengthen their relationship through an extension of their current strategic agreement.
Grupo Presidente plans to continue the extensive, ongoing renovations on a portion of its existing Presidente InterContinental hotels and resorts to ensure that they best serve guests’ evolving needs. Furthermore, IHG and Grupo Presidente will partner to grow the portfolio of IHG-branded hotels in Mexico.
Since 1994, IHG and Grupo Presidente have assembled a portfolio of eleven hotels and resorts across the country under IHG’s InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn brands. Under their renewed partnership, the two companies will work together to expand the footprint and broaden the diversity of IHG brands represented in key Mexican cities and resort destinations. This growth momentum will further reinforce IHG’s industry leadership position as the largest hotel company in Mexico.
Kirk Kinsell, president, the Americas at IHG commented:“We have a clear strategy to grow our brands across priority global markets where we see the greatest opportunity. In Mexico, we are well-positioned to deliver on this strategy through our deep relationship with Grupo Presidente. We intend to build on our 20-year track record of success by continuing to operate high performing hotels, introducing new brands into the right markets and staying focused on meeting the needs of our guests.”
Braulio Arsuaga Losada, director general at Grupo Presidente commented: “The Grupo Presidente and IHG relationship over the last 20 years has resulted in a strong partnership. We are currently working together on the renovation of the Presidente InterContinental hotels in Mexico City and Cancun. We share the same philosophy to grow in Mexico and look forward to a bright future working together to develop IHG branded hotels and to strengthen Grupo Presidente’s world-class hotel management and operation business.”
IHG’s heritage in Mexico began in 1970 when the first Holiday Inn hotel opened in Acapulco. Now, there are 126 IHG hotels and nearly 20,000 rooms open, as well as 32 new hotels in the development pipeline, across five well-known brands. The Presidente InterContinental luxury portfolio in Mexico consists of nine hotels with more than 2,700 guest rooms in Cancun, Cozumel, Guadalajara, Ixtapa, Merida, Monterrey, Mexico City, Puebla, and Santa Fe. IHG and Grupo Presidente’s relationship continues to be an important growth vehicle in Mexico for the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand, which globally is twice as large as any other luxury hotel brand.
Grupo Presidente and IHG collectively have the deep market knowledge and connections to capitalize on untapped opportunities to serve business and leisure guests on the road for a broad range of travel occasions. IHG and Grupo Presidente plan to develop hotels under IHG’s successful, global lifestyle, extended stay and Holiday Inn portfolio of brands – with a focus on the boutique Hotel Indigo and upscale Staybridge Suites brands – to meet rapidly growing consumer demand.
