Student wins prestigious Savoy Educational Trust scholarship for Edge Hotel School

Chris Holdys, from Hertford Heath, has been awarded a £3,000 scholarship from the Savoy Educational Trust as he begins his degree at the pioneering Edge Hotel School, the UK’s first hotel school based entirely in a fully operational 4* hotel.

19 year old Chris joined the Edge Hotel School in May and is working towards his BA degree in Hotel Management.

Chris says: “I am so honoured to have been chosen as a recipient of the Savoy Educational Trust Scholarship. Having the recognition of the Trust has given me a huge confidence boost and I can’t wait to further my skills and knowledge while contributing to the success of the Hotel. The Edge Hotel School degree is the perfect mix of hands-on, practical learning and theory and I’m excited to kick-start my career in such a professional environment.”

The Savoy Educational Trust scholarships are designed to support talented students and encourage them as they set out to become the outstanding hospitality managers of the future. Scholarships were awarded by a panel based on a combination of criteria from the application form and a supporting statement.

Chief Executive of the Savoy Educational Trust, Julia Sibley MBE says: “People learn in many different ways and everyone should have the opportunity to maximise their potential. The methods of ‘learning by doing’ at the Edge Hotel School are an excellent way of equipping young people with the skills they need to become the hotel managers of the future.

“The Trustees of the Savoy Educational Trust have offered scholarships to students at the Edge Hotel School since it opened and are very pleased to continue to offer help to students like Chris so that they may fulfil their potential.”

The first hotel school of its kind in the UK, the Edge Hotel School, equips its degree students with the professional and managerial skills, as well as the academic theory, to prepare them for their future careers as leaders in the industry. Offering students a fast-track, two-year intensive Hotel Management degree, from the University of Essex, it allows them to experience the realities of life working in the hospitality industry.
