Onyx CenterSource, a leading provider of commission payment processing and recovery solutions for hotels and travel agencies, has announced the appointment of hospitality technology pioneer Bill Nicholson as executive vice president & chief product officer.

The announcement by CEO Mark Dubrow follows the company’s recent rebranding as Onyx CenterSource, a name selected to unify its brands and better reflect its breadth of services to the hospitality and travel markets.

Nicholson will be responsible for the research, discovery, development and release of new products. He was a founding executive of Pegasus Solutions − an Onyx predecessor – where he led an innovative team that pioneered the development of the industry’s first online global platform to manage and distribute hotel content and reservations. He later served Pegasus as executive vice president & chief operating officer.

Nicholson also was the first president and general manager of Sabre Hospitality Solutions (formerly SynXis), where he led the development and deployment of central reservations systems and private-label website technology for leading hotel companies around the world.

“Bill Nicholson is a pioneer in the travel and hospitality industries and has been successful in all his endeavors,” Dubrow said. “A technologist by education, he has been involved with successful product development, operations and executive leadership. Under his guidance, we look forward to bringing some exciting new products to market.”

Nicholson was involved in the early stage development of HomeAway, a shared-economy vacation rental and booking company, and cofounded TripCraft, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based technology startup that developed a mobile platform for the distribution of rich hotel content and reservations.

Nicholson also provided strategic consulting, interim executive and advisory services to a number of travel and technology companies, including Lanyon, Hudson Crossing, RoomKey, Sabre Holdings, Amadeus IT Group and Harland Clarke. He served Onyx as a consultant last year.

Nicholson said that while much of his career has focused on startups, he is excited to join Onyx CenterSource “because of its focus on and commitment to innovation and developing next-generation solutions and payment systems.”

He is a graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, Commerce, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
