Curio Collection by Hilton signs first hotel in The Netherlands with historic Monastery conversion opening in 2020

Hilton has signed a management agreement with Gelasius Vastgoedmaatschappij B.V and Service Hotel and Resort International B.V. to open The Monastery Hotel Koningsbosch, Curio Collection by Hilton.

The hotel, close to the German and Belgian borders in the Dutch province of Limburg, is set to open in 2020, marking the exclusive collection brand’s debut in the Netherlands.

The Gelasius Vastgoedmaatschappij B.V team said: “Over the past two years we have worked very hard to secure the long term future of the monastery as a working hotel, together with the municipal authorities and Hilton. The environmental permit is expected to be granted this month so that the restoration and renovation of the monastery can commence. It is expected that the hotel will provide hundreds of jobs and have a positive international economic impact on the region. We are also very happy for the community of Koningsbosch which has been eagerly awaiting the revitalisation of the monastery. We are proud that we have been able to attract a premier leader in the hotel industry exclusively to Limburg and wish Hilton all the best with the operation. We also thank the wekra Finanz GmbH for their great partnership over the last two years!”

“Having entered the Dutch market more than 50 years ago, this signing marks the introduction of Hilton’s sixth brand in the Netherlands,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President, Development, EMEA, Hilton.Ê”A perfect match for our growing Curio Collection, the hotel will offer travellers an authentic local experience, within the historic surroundings of the former monastery building. The Netherlands continues to prosper as a thriving tourist destination, and this exciting project presents another opportunity for guests to enjoy our world-class hospitality.”

The 100 room hotel will be situated inside a stunning former monastery, originally built in 1873, and will host an upscale restaurant and bar. The hotel, esteemed for its neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque architecture, will maintain its independent character in a situation perfect for a peaceful getaway in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The countryside surrounding the hotel will attract those with an active mindset, with a number of outdoor activities such as trekking and cycling on offer in the nearby area. It is also easily reachable from a number of large cities, including Maastricht (40km), Eindhoven (65km) and Dusseldorf (77km). Guests will be able to experience the awe-inspiring former Dominican church Boekhandel Dominicanen and the Jansgeleen Castle, as well as a number of other religious sites and monuments.
