Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou, the new flagship property of Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality, has celebrated its grand opening. The hotel is scenically located on the waterfront of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, and will bring the highest standards of hospitality, previously reserved only for official guests of the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, to Hangzhou.

Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou draws on the exemplary tradition of the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s venue for hosting heads of foreign states and governments.

The Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou is conceived as the residence of a highly knowledgeable diplomat with rich life experiences; an individual with an open mind who is, by nature, modest and generous in disposition. The Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou is the diplomat’s mansion where distinguished visitors from around the world are catered to and entertained as his guests, immersed in traditional Chinese culture combined with contemporary international elements.

The design theme is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Chinese courtyard residence, combined with the attractive garden scenery for which Southern China and particularly Hangzhou is famous.

Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou is designed by renowned British architecture firm, Atkins, who capture the essence of the prestigious Diaoyutai brand while infusing contemporary aesthetics into the design concept. They skillfully maintain a delicate balance between tradition and modernity, whilst also placing Hangzhou itself within a wider, international context.

The hotel’s interior design is by noted Hong Kong firm Cheng Chung Design. The lobby, restaurants, guest rooms, and banquet halls form a continuous space which fuses international elements with Chinese aesthetics. The functional areas blend the rich legacy of Diaoyutai and the diplomatic culture of the State Guesthouse with the cultural legacy and scenic charms of Hangzhou, one of the eight ancient capitals of China.

The hotel boasts 162 elegantly furnished guestrooms, of which 91 come with stunning river views. The spacious rooms range in size from 60sqm to 315sqm, (with an overall average of 90sqm). Rooms come in many different styles, helping to give the feeling of a residence rather than just another hotel.

A highlight is the double height Sky Ballroom on the 18th floor, which is flanked by two large outdoor gardens, one in Western and one in Chinese style, ideal for weddings, meetings, banquets and prestigious events. Also on the 18th floor, is Vila Hangzhou, or Villa 18, a beautiful private dining pavilion named after Villa 18, the most prestigious villa at The Diaoyutai State Guest House which has hosted US Presidents, Queen Elizabeth II and many other world leaders.

Villa Hangzhou serves the renowned Diaoyutai cuisine, which creatively fuses Chinese and Western cuisines, and has been perfected over many years of service to world leaders at the State Guesthouse.

Other dining options are the Royal Court restaurant, which serves Diaoyutai cuisine and other Chinese delicacies, Pinju Hangzhou which is a casual all day dining Chinese restaurant designed to resemble a local food street, which offers Hangzhou and Shanghai Cuisine. These are complemented by Fangfei Lobby Lounge – an all-day dining restaurant serving Chinese and Western Food.

The hotel is equipped with a 20-meter long indoor swimming pool, complete with Jacuzzi and fitness centre to provide a healthy and relaxing experience throughout your stay. The fitness centre features a vertical garden adjacent to the indoor pool which offers a pleasantly unexpected “al fresco” swimming experience by means of a tiled roof and an ingenious lighting system.

Commanding stunning river views and natural beauty near the forest garden, Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou is located at No. 65, Wuxing Road, Jianggan District, Qianjiang Central Business District, 25-minute driving distance to Xiaoshan International Airport, and about 30-40-minute driving distance to the West Lake or Liuhe Pagoda.

Gary Chan, General Manager of Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou, said, “Hangzhou is an ancient capital with rich culture and history. The hotel blends the culture of this time-honoured city and top-tier hospitality and service originated from the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, bringing Chinese style hospitality experiences with a modern touch to our guests.”
