Scandic to build new hotel at Norway’s biggest exhibition center in Lilleström

Scandic Hotels, the largest hotel operator in the Nordic countries, will open a new hotel in 2018 – Scandic Portalen – at Norway’s largest congress center, Norway Trade Fairs, in Lilleström. Lilleström is one of Norway’s most important hubs for business travel and the only stop on the train line between the airport and Oslo Central Station.

The new 12-storey hotel, which will be located at the train station in Lilleström, will be the tallest building in the area. It will offer 220 hotel rooms and 500 m2 of meeting and conference facilities. The hotel is expected to be finished in January 2018.

“With its strategic location at one of Norway’s most important hubs for business travelers and the largest exhibition center in the country, Scandic Portalen will be a valuable addition to our Norwegian hotel portfolio,” says Frank Fiskers, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels.

“I am extremely pleased that Scandic will operate a hotel at Norway Trade Fairs and I am convinced that the hotel will be extremely important to Lilleström as a destination. Its location at Norway’s biggest congress center is excellent and Scandic will help reinforce Lilleström as a trade fair destination at the same time as exhibitions will drive business to the hotel,” says Arne Baumann, Executive Vice President Commercial Property of OBOS.

Lilleström is located 20 km from Oslo and it is the only stop on the Flygtoget train line between the airport and Oslo’s Central Station. The Portalen area is the most important hub for business travel in the region. In addition to the new hotel, the area will include apartments as well as office and retail space.
