Experienced hotelier Tim Pollock has returned to New Zealand to take up an Auckland-based role. Tim’s new role with the global InterContinental Hotel Group is as General Manager Crowne Plaza Auckland, and IHG’s Area General Manager for New Zealand.
Tim started in the position last week, taking up this new challenge from his previous role as IHG’s Area General Manager in Papua New Guinea. He spent eight successful years overseeing IHG’s hotels in PNG, including leading the team that opened the first Holiday Inn Express in Australasia.
Delighted to be back in his home country after a substantial time spent overseas, Tim said it was an “exciting” time to re-enter New Zealand.
“I’ve returned to New Zealand in what appears to be a fairly buoyant market, as the industry heads into another very strong cycle,” he said.
IHG currently operates five properties in New Zealand including Crowne Plaza hotels in Auckland and Queenstown, two Holiday Inn properties in Rotorua and at Auckland Airport, and the InterContinental Wellington.
A new Crowne Plaza hotel is to open next year in Christchurch, based in the city’s former Forsyth Barr building.
“As IHG grows, I’m looking forward to being involved in the expansion, including the re-opening of our Christchurch hotel,” said Tim.
“I love being a hotelier, and as a Kiwi returning to my home country I think I’ll bring a level of enthusiasm to the job that will ensure I deliver to all my stakeholders. In my area role my job is to deliver the best business results possible to multiple owners.”
During his time in PNG, Tim was known for mentoring many senior leaders. His dedication and commitment to local PNG talent saw Ida Golu join the team as Hotel Manager for Holiday Inn Express Port Moresby, the first time a PNG national has taken such a high profile leadership role.
Before his time in PNG, Tim worked with the Heritage Group in New Zealand in various General Manager roles across several key destinations.
