The Laslett to open in London’s Notting Hill mid-2015

The Laslett, a hotel by Living Rooms – the hotel alternative, will open its doors in London’s Notting Hill next summer.

In a neighbourhood as storied as W11, this newcomer has its own Notting Hill tale to tell. Named after well-loved local Rhaune Laslett – community activist and organiser of the original Notting Hill Festival, which went on to become the world-famous Carnival – The Laslett is inspired by the area’s vibrant cultural heritage while also capturing its new wave of creative cool.

Spread across five handsome Victorian mansions on Pembridge Gardens, The Laslett is less than a minute from Notting Hill Gate underground station (Oxford Street or Westfield in 10 minutes; Paddington for the Heathrow Express in 15) and perfectly placed to tap into the local scene – Portobello Road Market a short walk this way, a film at the Electric a stroll that way, with a tempting number of bars and restaurants just around the corner.

Guests don’t even need to venture that far though. Downstairs at The Laslett will be more neighbourhood hangout than hotel lobby. Part coffee shop, part bar-kitchen, part gallery, part concept store – this multifunctional space will evolve throughout the day. Coffee made with beans roasted just across town. Exhibitions and installations from local photographers and artists. Cocktails shaken with craft London spirits. An ever-changing selection of prints, homewares and artisan produce on sale thanks to collaborations with the city’s most need-to-know names.

The 51 guest rooms and suites, like others in the Living Rooms collection, look straight out of a stylish friend’s townhouse. Architectural and interior designers Waldo Works cleverly walk the line between hip and homely, and celebrate the characterful and eclectic cultural heritage of Notting Hill. The Laslett combines its British identity with finds and influences from around the world, like an extension of the Portobello Road market experience. Modern furniture sits alongside more personal quirks – well chosen books for bedside reading, proper blankets, and curiosities from a local antiques dealer, with curated photographs and artworks on the walls. A monochrome base is popped with strong colours, and textiles and textures throughout welcome you home. A ‘big bar’ of snacks, drinks and French-press coffee completes the make-yourself-at-home vibe.

The Laslett opens summer 2015 at 8 Pembridge Gardens, Notting Hill, London, W2 4DU. Opening rates from £215 including VAT.
