The month of October is marked with the most important celebration for Indian communities from all over the globe as it is the time to rejoice in the triumph over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.
For Deepavali , celebrants will decorate their homes with kolam, a form of artwork that is created using coloured rice powder to bring prosperity to the households. To add to the festive cheer, One World Hotel Petaling Jaya has embraced the essence of the tradition and will greet guests with a majestic kolam in the lobby of the hotel.
In line with its Cinnamon’s coffee house promotion ‘A Maharajah Feast’, highlighting Mughlai cuisine for the entire month, elephants anchor the theme for the kolam as maharajahs travelled with elephants during ancient times.
One World’s kolam measures 20 feet in diameter. Spearheaded by the hotel’s Public Relations department together with volunteers from other various departments, the team used 11 different colours and hundreds of kilograms of rice powder to complete the design. All up, it took 11 hours of delicate work in order to complete this stunning piece of celebratory art.
