Green initiatives pay multiple benefits for Miramar Al Aqah

Miramar Al Aqah Resort was the first Green Globe-certified hotel in the UAE. In this video, Iberotel Area Manager Ashraf Helmy eloquently explains the range of benefits from the property’s environmental focus.

Through green initiatives such as the installation of LED lighting and smart thermostats, the expense of the resort’s power and water supply has been cut by as much as 30-40 percent.

But beyond the significant economic savings, Helmy believes that environmental awareness provides a common language that bonds his diverse staff who hail from 33 different nationalities. Ultimately he hopes that when they eventually return to their home countries, they will start businesses that leverage ideas learned at Miramar Al Aqah to benefit their local communities.

He introduces their upcoming Eco-Beach sand replenishment program and concludes with a message of encouragement to all General Managers that while a dedication to the environment certainly has financial benefits, it should not be the main target. The more important rewards to the hotel, staff and world at large are much more significant and worth striving for.
