Gilbert Madhavan new GM at One Farrer Hotel & Spa, VP Hotel Operations

One Farrer Hotel & Spa facade_1Gilbert Madhavan is the new General Manager at One Farrer Hotel & Spa and also its Vice President of Hotel Operations. The property (pictured right) is due to open in August.

A seasoned professional with more than 35 years in the hospitality industry, Mr Madhavan has held several senior leadership positions with hotels in Asia, Australia and the Caribbean, spending the last 17 years with Raffles Hotels & Resorts.

He brings a wealth of management experience and knowledge to his role as the General Manager to spearhead the opening of One Farrer Hotel & Spa, a five-star luxury urban resort that offers a total lifestyle experience with its distinctive range of accommodations, wellness and spa facilities, innovative dining concepts and a state-of-the-art conference centre.

Prior to this appointment, he was General Manager of Raffles Tianjin, contributing to the successful launch of the city’s first penthouse hotel in 2010. He was formerly General Manager of Raffles Resort Canouan Island, The Grenadines, which under his leadership, hosted illustrious events such as a private concert by operatic pop group Il Divo and Grammy award winning artist José Feliciano in aid of The Prince’s Trust and the Trump Million Dollar Invitational golf tournament. During his tenure, the hotel was accorded the prestigious five-star Diamond Award by American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.

His previous positions within Raffles Hotels & Resorts include Area General Manager of Asia Pacific and Indo China properties, General Manager of Swissotel Sydney, Australia and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where he successfully re-launched and managed the award-winning hotel, which was recognised by Conde Nast Traveler and Travel and Leisure, as amongst the world’s best.

The highlight of his stint in Cambodia was the high profile fundraising charity concert he organised in 2002, featuring world renowned Spanish tenor, Jose Carreras, accompanied by Singapore Symphony Orchestra at the legendary Angkor Wat which attracted 1,200 guests from the world across to raise funds for victims of landmines.

For his outstanding achievement in the hospitality industry, Mr Madhavan was presented the International Management Action Award by the Chartered Management Institute, Singapore and SPRING Singapore,
