Latest trends in wellness travel offerings

Global Wellness Tourism Economy Report by SRI International, it is expected to grow over 9 per cent annually through 2017. From fit-cations to the fresh-pressed juice craze, luxury properties worldwide are offering guests the latest wellness trends to keep all healthy in the new year. Here is a closer look.

Hooked on Juicing

Delicious and nutritious, juicing is the staple of a healthy lifestyle for many. Made from combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables blended into an easy-to-sip, refreshing beverage, juicing is the trendy way to get a daily dose of vitamins and nutrient. Hotels and spas are taking note of this health craze and offering fresh-pressed juice at their properties. At Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona, guests can partake in complimentary juicing classes to learn the health benefits of juicing. Guests at the Gramercy Park Hotel in NYC don't even have to leave their rooms to enjoy a glass of fresh-pressed juice from the hotel's new in-room dining menu, which features selections including the Green Machine (kale, apple, pineapple), Citrus and Spice (carrot, ginger, orange) and more.

Local Enrichment

Local is a buzzword in luxury travel, with globetrotters eager to immerse themselves in the destinations they visit. Hotels are giving their guests opportunities to discover their surrounding cities by incorporating local flavor into their wellness offerings. At the eco-friendly Hotel Vermont, guests can explore the town of Burlington with complimentary bike rentals from the local alternative bike shop, Old Spokes Home. At the Nines in Portland, business travelers are invited to explore the city with the Meetings in Motion package which allows groups to conduct their business meetings outside while they discover Washington Park and learn about the local sites.

Feel Like One With Nature

Hotels are taking the local craze one step further by incorporating nutrients and resources found in their local surroundings into innovative nature-focused spa treatments. In Hot Springs, Virginia guests at the Omni Homestead Resort can experience the benefits of the natural springs on property with the mineral-rich Homestead Soothing Scrub, which rejuvenates the skin and brings balance back to the body. Caneel Bay Resort in the U.S Virgin Islands offers the Hot Bamboo Massage and Hot Seashell Massage that incorporate resources found along the resort's serene beach into two relaxing massages. At the Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air in California, the Advanced Marine Biology Facial by La Prairie uses the protective minerals of the ocean in a restorative 90 minute facial.

Escape to Get in Shape

Luxury destinations are getting in on the workout fever that is swarming the world and curating special getaways dedicated to fitness. This February, the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa in Nevada is holding a Triathlon Training Weekend hosted by professional triathlete Kelly Williamson which includes seminars on course management, local conditions, and race diet. Kiawah Island, South Carolina has a Women's Tennis Weekend that includes more than seven hours of instruction, drills and court time from the dedicated tennis staff at Kiawah Island Golf & Tennis Resort. In Los Angeles, Hotel Bel-Air and Lululemon have teamed up to offer hotel guests and local residents hour long yoga on Saturday mornings in the gardens. Classes start at 9am with fresh juices provided complimentary.

Wellness Retreats

If fit-cations sound a bit too strenuous, there are options to indulge in an all-encompassing wellness getaway. The Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa in Pennsylvania is hosting a Women's Wellness Weekend in March, a 3-day all-inclusive package that includes expert-led classes focused on fitness, beauty and healthy eating. New to the weekend this year are acutonics classes, which teach participating women to connect with their environments through energy, sound and aromatherapy. At Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa in California, the personalized New Year, New You package includes a personal training session along with a customized facial and a 30-minute massage.

Healthy Mind, Healthy You

Some luxury spas are trying quite unique techniques to attract business. In Switzerland, the Dolder Grand Spa's new Violin Touch Treatment incorporates the sounds of live violin tones which work in tandem with the massage for a soothing effect on the body. In Telluride, Colorado at The Spa at Hotel Madeline Telluride the new ISUN Emerald Sun Signature Facial and ISUM Gemstone Massage use gemstones to open and balance the energy points in the body. In Milan, Hotel Principe di Savoia's Club 10 is offering the Precious Gift Treatment which includes the Polynesia, a ritual spa treatment that leads guests on a sensory journey to relaxation through warm fragrances and soothing body treatments. The treatment also includes the Sensai Wrinkle Facial Treatment.
