Marriott: Independent portfolio will grow 50 per cent by 2019

Arne SorensonMarriott International expects to grow its brands of independent hotel collections by nearly 50 per cent by 2019.

Arne Sorenson, the company’s President and CEO, made the announcement at the NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference inÊNew York. With the company’s 2016 acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Marriott now has three collection brands Ð The Luxury Collection, Autograph Collection Hotels and Tribute Portfolio Ð on a single platform, comprising more than 240 hotels.

“The growth projected for the next few years underscores the demand Marriott is seeing for more customized, local experiences,” said Mr Sorenson.

The collections represent different categories of experience: The Luxury Collection offers a Òfull luxury experienceÓ; Autograph and Tribute are both part of Marriott’s premium distinctive category and are in the upper upscale, full-service lifestyle hotel range.

In 2017, the three brands are expected to grow 20 per cent, including more than 40 openings, putting the portfolio in 50 countries and territories.
