Marriott joins coalition in support of same-sex marriage

Marriott joins court caseThis spring, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider whether states can continue to deny same-sex couples access to full marriage equality, along with its legal, financial and social benefits.  On March 5th, Marriott International joined with a broad coalition of American businesses and major employers to file a “friend of the court” brief that sets out the business case for marriage equality and expresses support for uniform nationwide recognition of same-sex marriages.

“As a longtime champion for diversity and inclusion for our employees and customers, we are pleased to join a growing peer group of American businesses across a number of industries taking part in a discussion on LGBT rights,” said David Rodriguez, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer.  “We hope that our collective efforts will help to educate the Court how the current state laws impact business and employee productivity.  Ultimately, Marriott wants to ensure that all of its employees continue to be treated fairly and equally.”

The brief’s arguments support Marriott’s longstanding aim to be the “employer of choice” for all, and build upon the company’s prior support for marriage equality in litigation before six of the federal Circuit Courts of Appeals since April 2014. Marriott also is proud of its 100% perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index that signifies its commitment to inclusion, diversity and putting its people first.
