Extend your knowledge with wine master classes and a spirit-tasting forum

The Drinks Industry ShowThe Drinks Industry Show, Australia’s dedicated trade event for the drinks industry, has announced wine master classes and a spirit-tasting forum, designed to further attendees’ knowledge and skills.Ê

The master classes and tasting forum, to be held on Tuesday, June 27, are the latest additions to this innovative two-day show, which is free to industry professionals and back for its second year after a highly successful debut.

ÒThe morning will be dedicated to wine, with spirits the focus in the afternoon. Under the direction of Event Curator Ben Davidson,Êwe have secured engaging, knowledgeable, Ôtop-shelf’ experts to lead these sessions,” said David Paterson, Event Director with Exhibitions and Trade Fairs (ETF), the organiser of The Drinks Industry Show.

The master classes begin with a look inside key beverage education programmes offered by the Court of Master Sommelier, Master of Wine, and Wine and Spirits Educational Trust, looking at how each suits different education and career ambitions. This will be covered by Jude Mullins, International Development Director of WSET UK; Benjamin Hasko, Master Sommelier and Director of Cru Wines & Bootlegger; and Toni Paterson, Master of Wine and Wine Communicator. A Master Class on Italian Pinot Grigio, given by Stuart Leece, Director of Single Vineyard Sellers, follows.

The afternoon’s sprit-tasting forum begins with a session on Australian gin and other craft spirits, where attendees can hear why these spirits are unique and have an opportunity to taste the latest from market leaders, along with new products from craft distillers.

This will be followed by a session on agave spirits, covering the latest information about mezcal with the chance to taste some exquisite spirits under the guidance of Global Mezcal Ambassador Phil Bayly, Agave authority and Tio GM Alex Gilmour, Agave Cartel Boss, Reece Griffiths and Mezcal educator Jose Ponce.

The afternoon spirit education and tasting-forum finishes with The World Whisk(e)y Smackdown, where attendees can taste examples of leading whisky styles from Scotland, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia.

“After listening to passionate whisky representatives, the day will conclude with a light-hearted tally of audience favourites, to see who wins serious bragging rights for the best whisky Ñ or Ôwhiskey’, depending upon its origins Ñ at The Drinks Industry Show,” said Mr Paterson.

The Drinks Industry Show is a free, trade-only exhibition showcasing the latest in wine, beer and spirits from across the world. A range of exhibitors will be onsite, representing industry associations, glassware and accessories, distributors, mixers, fruit processors, media, industry specialists in HR and legal issues, machinery and equipment suppliers, storage suppliers, craft distillers and wine producers.

Day one features an excellent line-up of free seminars, beginning with the latest facts, insights, trends and opportunities in the Australian market; how are brands delivering to the consumer macro trend for premiumisation and where the opportunities lie; how to discover a niche that sells; the future of online and physical stores; how design can make or break hospitality businesses; why education must be a pillar of any drinks business; and driving brand visibility.
