The Master Innholder Scholarship programme is now accepting applications from rising stars in the UK hospitality industry.
Thanks to the generosity of the Worshipful Company of Innholders, the Savoy Educational Trust and the Lord Forte Foundation, the scholarship programme enables successful candidates to follow a fully-funded two-week management development course at either Cranfield University (UK), Cornell University (USA), or École Hôtelière de Lausanne (Switzerland).
Jonathan Raggett FIH MI, the chairman of the Master Innholders, says, “There is no minimum qualification, academic or otherwise needed to apply. Whether you work in a large 5-star city hotel, a small provincial property or a boutique B&B, the programme is designed for both general managers as well as those heads of department with clear management potential.”
Adam Worthington, now the general manager of Hart’s Hotel, Nottingham, recently graduated from the course:

“You feel invigorated, recharged and completely inspired to bringing about real positive change in your business. The process itself is designed to positively test the very limits of your knowledge and capabilities and provides a real-time opportunity for you to analyse your own contribution to the long term strategic objectives of your business and how you can positively influence the contributions of those around you.”
There are three courses to choose from, each run over a two-week period:
The Lausanne Executive Education Programme, created in 1981, prioritises the market’s evolution and participants’ future challenges and is taught by highly qualified module leaders and facilitators.
The Cranfield Talent Development Programme develops fast-track managers early in their careers, enables them to make wider more credible business contributions, challenges them to develop greater managerial visibility, credibility and maturity as well as raise their own capability, influence and managerial value.
The General Managers Programme at Cornell University is for managers seeking, specific and workable solutions to real-world, real-time demands and brings a worldwide perspective to the table. The programme is designed to mould decision-makers into strategic thinkers, expand their knowledge, broaden their viewpoint and produce new solutions to the challenges they face.
Marguerite Courtney MIH, Glenmor General Manager, Gleneagles Hotel shares her thoughts from her time on the Master Innholders Scholarship programme, “Having slowed down my career to have two children, I felt they were now at a good age for me to get back onto the career ladder. The course gave me the confidence to work outside my comfort zone,th July.
