MacKenzie MacDonald has been named director of activities at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, the iconic resort currently celebrating 50-years as California’s original destination for mind, body and sport.
MacDonald is well versed in the business of fun with nearly a decade of experience in resort-wide program development and a track record of successful signature events. In his position at Omni La Costa, MacDonald will drive and oversee all recreational activities including sponsored events, youth entertainment and an extensive array of outdoor events that celebrate the resort’s sun-splashed southern California setting.
“We’re set in one of the sunniest counties in the nation and naturally, offer an extensive array of outdoor activities that exemplify the southern California resort lifestyle,” said Larry Magor, managing director of Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. “MacKenzie’s creative expertise in developing programs with a distinct sense of place made him an ideal fit.”
An alumnus of Omni Hotels & Resorts, MacDonald most recently served as recreation manager and camp director at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. While there, he drove the expansion of youth activities and family programming and developed several educational and interactive, nature-based programs including Barton’s Bees, Snake Safe and Professor Putt’s Science Academy.
Prior to his tenure with Omni Hotels & Resorts, MacDonald’s passion for resort recreation was sparked at Disney Cruise Lines where his career started as a youth activities counselor and worked his way up to the position of training coordinator, youth activities. In 2012, MacDonald was tapped for the heralded launch of the Disney Fantasy cruise ship.
MacDonald is a native of Halifax, Canada, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Dalhousie University.
