Rosewood Puebla to open in Mexican UNESCO World Heritage Site

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed by Plus Arrendamientos Inmobiliarios, S.A. de C.V. (“PAI”) to manage Rosewood Puebla which will open in 2016 in the UNESCO World Heritage Site as Rosewood’s fourth property in Mexico. Situated approximately 75 miles southeast of Mexico City, Puebla is renowned for its colonial architecture, traditional cuisine and colorful ceramics.  The hotel will be in a prime position near the city’s main square, the Zocalo, which is Puebla’s cultural, religious and political center.

Rosewood Puebla will be housed in a collection of buildings from different eras surrounding a picturesque, private, walled courtyard. The hotel will offer 79 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant with outdoor courtyard seating, the Lavaderos de Almoloya bar and a Sense spa with four private treatment rooms.  A rooftop bar and swimming pool will feature stunning views over the neighboring Igelsia de San Francisco. Within the courtyard stands a 300-year-old chapel, which will be available to guests as a wedding venue.

The hotel will be designed by DAS Concepts who will draw inspiration from the surrounding city famous for its architectural styles ranging from Renaissance to Mexican Baroque. Wherever possible, traditional materials and methods of construction will be incorporated into the building. Throughout the property, Rosewood Puebla will highlight one of the city’s greatest cultural treasures, Talavera pottery, from its classic beginnings to its most modern interpretations. It will also showcase furnishings and works from Mexican artists and craftspeople in a sophisticated blend of the traditional with the contemporary.

In 1987, UNESCO declared the downtown area as a World Heritage Site and it is home to over 2,600 historic sites and over 365 churches. The city is also famous for being the place where mole poblano (one of Mexico’s national dishes) was created as well as for its vibrant Cinco de Mayo celebrations. In addition, Puebla lies close to two of Mexico’s most significant archeological sites at Cantona and Cholula, which is the location of the world’s largest pyramid.
