Moxy Hotels searches for innovative hotel art through #BlankCanvas campaign

Moxy Hotels, Marriott International’s new lifestyle brand, aims to rebel against the traditional concept of hotel art with its #BlankCanvas campaign, in search and in support of emerging artists.. #BlankCanvas invites innovative painters, photographers, film-makers, sculptors, illustrators and graffiti artists to submit unique works of art for the chance to be one of the featured artists at new Moxy Hotels. Selected works will become the cornerstone of a permanent contemporary, emerging art collection at each Moxy Hotel.

#BlankCanvas

Moxy Hotels has partnered with international artistic platform Talenthouse to call on multi-media artists from around the world to submit contemporary works that encapsulate the unexpected, fun, spirited attitude that Moxy Hotels embodies and celebrates.

“#BlankCanvas embodies a fun and innovative business approach to curating art and style– much like the Moxy brand,” said Vicki Poulos, global brand director, Moxy Hotels. “In addition to creating a platform for emerging artists to explore their creativity and showcase their work, the program aims to reinvent the conventional hotel guest experience and encourage new conversations around arts and culture.”

The public campaign which aims to uncover some of the hottest emerging artistic talent, will unveil its next #BlankCanvas selected artist at the debut celebration for Moxy New Orleans in May 2016. Additional #BlankCanvas challenges will launch later this year in order to identify artists who will be featured at the openings of Moxy Tempe, AZ, Moxy Nashville, TN and Moxy Berlin, Germany.  The #BlankCanvas program will continue year round at each hotel in collaboration with local art programs, studios and collectors.

How artists will be selected

A panel of judges will review each body of work. One artist will be selected to visit Moxy New Orleans for the hotel’s debut to participate in a live art installation attended by local and international media, art visionaries and cultural catalysts. In addition to receiving a prize of $2,500, the selected work will be showcased in Moxy New Orleans’ Living Room as part of the hotel’s art collection. The selected artist will be announced April 4, 2016 and revealed during the Moxy New Orleans Freak Show, which will take place in May 2016.

The public can vote on www.moxyhotels.com/whats-up for the Popular Choice artist. The designation will go to the individual who receives the most social shares, in addition to a $500 award. Participating artists are encouraged to share their submissions on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest with the hashtags #BlankCanvas and #AtTheMoxy.

Moxy Hotels launched #BlankCanvas in September 2014 at the grand opening of Moxy Milan with Nune D’Amico Kerobyan winning the coveted title of ‘Artist-in-Residence’.
