The Beach House at Thompson Playa del Carmen unveiled

Thompson Playa del Carmen Thompson Playa del Carmen has unveiled its intimate, bohemian-inspired Beach House on the shores of the Caribbean Sea in Mexico.  The first-of-its-kind luxury lifestyle hotel in Playa del Carmen is now complete with two distinct locations – the 92-room main hotel located on lively La Quinta Avenida, which debuted in November 2015, and now, the exclusive, villa-style Beach House, which is perched directly on the beach just a few blocks away from the main hotel and boasts extraordinary ocean views.

Design

The Beach House exudes a private beach club-feel, offering highly-personalized and intuitive service.  Designed by lauded Mexican architecture firms AS Arquitectura and Seijo Peon, along with notable designers Niz + Chauvet, the intimate property’s 27 luxury accommodations (nine guest rooms and 18 suites) each feature a furnished, private balcony and expansive ocean views.  The design teams seamlessly fused mid-century décor with custom furnishings and rich Mexican patterns and textures, along with a relaxing palette of turquoise and sand tones to create a 1950s-inspired glamorous Mexican oasis.  The guest rooms were designed with locally-sourced materials, such as hand-pressed Guadalajara tiles, stone and white-washed wood panels.  The spacious bathrooms feature glass-enclosed rain showers with luxury Kimono bathrobes; select guest rooms also feature Aquaspa bathtubs.

Guest Rooms & Suites

The guest experience begins at the private check-in area of the Beach House.  Guest rooms and suites include the Terrace King, which are over 550 square-feet, Double Queen, Ocean View Junior Suite, Ocean View Suite and Panoramic Suite. Steps from the sand, the Panoramic Suite is the property’s largest accommodation at over 1,000 square feet; the suite offers sweeping sea views with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides and an Aquaspa bathtub on its private terrace.

Pool & Beach

The Beach House features a private pool lined with cabanas and an oceanfront lounge, reserved exclusively for Beach House guests. The pool and lounge offer luxurious daybeds, sofas and loungers, ideal for relaxing and soaking in the rays of the Caribbean sun in a tranquil environment.  Beach chairs on the sand are offered to all hotel guests, with priority seating offered to those staying at the Beach House. Guests are also able to enjoy the massive infinity pool on the expansive rooftop of the main hotel, just minutes away.

Dining

C Grill, a dining concept unlike any other in Playa del Carmen, is a casual, beachfront restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, from the New York City-based team responsible for dining destination CATCH, located on the main hotel’s 30,000-square-foot rooftop, which offers 360-degree views of downtown Playa and the Caribbean Sea.  Led by Executive Chef Pedro Abascal – a household name in Mexico after his appearances on the Mexican television show ‘El Reto Prime Gourmet’ (similar to ‘Top Chef’) and FOX’s ‘Hombres en La Cocina’ in Latin America – the dining locale offers light, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with Greek influence.  Chef Pedro serves up shareable dishes, such as the Mezze Plate with house-made hummus, babaganoush and pita, the Heirloom Tomato Salad, made with fresh tomatoes sourced from nearby Tulum, and a fresh Catch of the Day, caught just offshore each morning by Chef Pedro and his team of local fishermen, carefully cooked over the restaurant’s signature rustic, open, wood-fired grill.  Mezcal tastings, hand-crafted cocktails, and locally-made tequilas and beer perfectly complement each meal, which are best topped off with locally-sourced chocolate or a cup of Cobalto coffee, made with beans from local farms in Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco.

For an ultra-exclusive dining experience, guests are invited to experience Privada House, a social culinary affair hosted by Chef Pedro Abascal.  The interactive dining event allows guests to see and learn firsthand about the cuisine Chef Pedro and his culinary team prepare, and how.  From tasting the Catch-of-the-Day to pairing dishes with exclusive wines grown from Chef Pedro’s very own vineyard in Baja, Mexico, the culinary journey at Privada House will ensure memories to last a lifetime.

Recreation & Wellness

The Beach House offers exclusive recreational amenities to its guests, including complimentary bicycles – ideal for riding along the beach, and exploring Calle Corazon and downtown Playa del Carmen – stand-up paddleboards, and special fitness offerings, including beachfront yoga and boot camp. Guests relaxing on the beach are offered frozen fruit skewers and ceviche cups to keep cool, sunglass polishing and beach board games. A variety of water sports are also available to guests (at an additional cost), including snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing and scuba diving.  Guests looking to take a step toward relaxation can book a selection of in-room, on-terrace, or in-cabana spa treatments and massages.

Programming

The Beach House produces weekly activations for guests to enjoy an authentic Mexican experience with cutting-edge music, and tantalizing cocktails and cuisine, all set against the picturesque backdrop of the Caribbean Sea.  Select weekly events include a ‘make-your-own-ceviche’ class with Chef Pedro Abascal, who teaches guests how to create delicious ceviche, made with fresh-caught fish and local citrus, a homemade sangria workshop, led by Consulting Mixologist Omar Dorantes, and oyster shucking and tastings.

As the sun sets, guests can enjoy a variety of toned-down, beach nightlife, including Sangria and Ceviche Sunset Hour, ‘Dive-in’ Movies featuring classic films, Dessert Bonfires to make s’mores and other delectable treats, and Full Moon Parties, complete with live salsa and jazz.

Shopping & Entertainment

Guests ready for a lively, purely Playa experience can stroll down the open-air bar, restaurant and shop-lined pedestrian streets to the main hotel’s popular Rooftop.  Offering 360-degree views of downtown Playa and the Caribbean Sea, guests can enjoy sea-to-table dining and dancing at EMM Group’s CATCH. Weekly entertainment is also provided by both local and internationally-renowned DJ talent, and special performances will be booked at the main hotel’s rooftop for holiday nightlife activations and events. The main hotel is also anchored by the largest and most celebrated lifestyle retail destination in Riviera Maya, Calle Corazon, housing well-known contemporary fashion brands, including H&M, Michael Kors and SEPHORA, as well as various culinary concepts. Guests who make any purchases during their trip downtown can have their shopping bags conveniently transported from the main building on La Quinta Avenida to their room at the Beach House.

Ideal for weddings, special events, and corporate and incentive retreats, the Beach House is available for buy-outs to ensure the utmost in privacy and exclusivity.  VIP cabana and daybed packages are also available, perfect for families traveling together, and bachelor and bachelorette parties.
