Construction of Town Lodge Windhoek in Namibia is underway and the four-storey, 151-room hotel is expected to open to guests by July 2017, becoming the 58th hotel to become operational in the City Lodge Hotel Group’s portfolio.
Although work began a few months ago on new hotels in Nairobi (Kenya) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), both of these hotels will open after Town Lodge Windhoek, becoming the group’s 59th and 60th hotels.
Situated in the Steps development within The Grove Mall of Namibia in the Kleine Kuppe area of Windhoek, the R130-million Town Lodge Windhoek will have a boardroom, secure free basement parking and a swimming pool among its facilities for business and leisure travellers visiting Namibia’s capital city.
Significantly, Namibia will become the fifth African country in which the City Lodge Hotel Group operates, following South Africa (54 hotels), Botswana (one hotel), Kenya (two hotels and one under construction), and Tanzania (one under construction.)
Town Lodge Windhoek, will become the 13th Town Lodge in the City Lodge Hotel Group which comprises the Courtyard Hotel, City Lodge Hotel, Town Lodge and Road Lodge brands. It also owns the Fairview Hotel brand in Kenya.
While it is still finding opportunities to grow its footprint within South Africa, the group has in recent years also focused on growing its brands in selected parts of East Africa and Southern Africa.
“We are really looking forward to having another hotel in a neighbouring SADC country and believe that Town Lodge Windhoek will ideally complement our well-established Town Lodge Gaborone,” said Clifford Ross, chief executive of the City Lodge Hotel Group.
The group expects to open the 169-room City Lodge Hotel Two Rivers in Nairobi in July next year and the 147-room City Lodge Hotel Dar es Salaam in the final quarter of next year.
“We are also finalising regulatory issues in Mozambique and anticipate starting the development of the 148-room City Lodge Hotel Maputo which we hope to open in the first quarter of 2018,” he said.
