Thompson Playa del Carmen has announced the appointment of Nicholas Gold as its new General Manager.
With more than 20 years of hospitality experience, Gold will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operations at Thompson Playa del Carmen, including the rooms division, sales and marketing, revenue management, food and beverage, finance and entertainment. In this multi-faceted role, Gold will ensure that all Thompson Playa del Carmen services and facilities reflect quality standards, while delivering a consistent level of superior service for guests.
Prior to joining Thompson Playa del Carmen, Gold served as the Opening General Manager of Condado Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico; General Manager at Amangiri Resort in Canyon Point, Utah; Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona; and Enchantment Resort & Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Arizona. Under Gold’s management, multiple hotels and resorts have earned a number of prestigious awards and achievements, including the 2013 Gallivanter’s Guide ‘Best Hotel in North America’; the 2013 Travel + Leisure #4 ‘Hotels in North America for Foodies’; and the Conde Nast Traveler 2010 Readers Choice ‘Top 10 US Resorts, #1 in AZ’.
Gold has been instrumental in the launch of a number of esteemed events and initiatives, including the planning and execution of Florida Wine Fest, a prestigious event featuring 160 wineries, black-tie dinner for 1,500 guests and various exclusive wine dinners. An advocate for education, Gold also assisted in the formatting and curriculum for a new Hospitality Bachelor’s degree at University of South Florida, and set up an apprenticeship program in partnership with local community colleges.
Gold is certified by the American Hotel & Lodging Association as a Hospitality Administrator, Rooms Division Executive and Food & Beverage Executive.
