&Beyond Tengile River Lodge
Situated in the prestigious Sabi Sand Game Reserve, &Beyond Tengile River Lodge is a brand new property that will share the same traversing rights as the perennial favourite, &Beyond Kirkman’s Kamp. Elegant interiors by Anatomy Design will call to mind the same authentic feel, translated into a more modern fashion. Warm and contemporary, the lodge will intersperse quiet, intimate spaces with pockets of open space designed for group gatherings.
Boasting a name that means tranquil, &Beyond Tengile River Lodge will feature nine delicate floating suites that will look out over the Sand river from the dappled shelter of a cool forest. Following the curve of the river bank, each area in the lodge will offer magnificent river views. Raised above ground level, the spacious suites will offer sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and bathrooms that open out onto the forest, creating private spaces in the open air. Cleverly designed living areas can be converted to cater for children’s sleeping arrangements at night. A beautiful spa and gym area offer a haven of tranquillity where guests can spend the entire day relaxing in between game drives.
Sustainability lies at the heart of the new lodge’s form and function. Environmentally friendly construction materials have been selected with durability in mind. Automation is being put into place to reduce the use of electricity and the use of solar power has been combined with various procedures designed to increase efficiency both during the build phase and after.
&Beyond Tengile River Lodge will open on 01 December 2018.
&Beyond Phinda Homestead
In South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, the company’s much loved sole use villa, &Beyond Phinda Homestead, is being rebuilt following a fire in December 2016. Charged with the brief of recreating the previously existing lodge interior designers Fox Browne Creative will be decorating the new lodge as a contemporary bush home, modern and tactile. Raw materials will combine with quirky accents and local flavours that harken back to the reserve’s past as a pineapple farm, as well as traditional motifs of Nguni hides, Zulu craftwork and wildlife. Shades of burnt clay and aloe will serve as accent colours, while Zulu basketwork and weaving will feature throughout the villa, with the signature woven latticework appearing in unexpected places. Featuring furniture that brings in subtle hints of 1980s retro design, the inviting interior design will be that of a private home.
Minimalist yet elegant bedrooms will encourage the use of the villa’s shared guest spaces, while spacious bathrooms will feature marble basins shaped like traditional Zulu pots. The villa’s gym and massage room will be enlivened with quirky accessories in the signature colours, while the library will make use of pineapple motifs to tell the story of the reserve’s past. The spacious deck outside will boast an island bar to encourage family gatherings, while a decorative herb garden will be situated outside the kitchen.
&Beyond Phinda Homestead will reopen on 01 September 2018 and reservations are now open.
&BeyondÊPhinda VleiÊLodge
Also at &Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve, the intimate Phinda VleiÊLodge is due to receive a refurbishment. The lodge’s fresh new interior design will be inspired by the elegant, turn of the century plantation-style homestead of KwaZulu-Natal’s sugar cane and pineapple barons. The guest bathrooms will be completely refurbished to provide a sense of old-world luxury, while interiors will be an eclectic mix of curated antiques and collectables. A handsome library will be added to the guest areas, creating a quiet space for reflection. The dining deck will also be extended to allow for covered al fresco dining with views of the adjoining wetland. Boasting a strong and rich identity, the updated look for Phinda Vlei Lodge will be homely and nostalgic, accented with antique tapestries, fine art, vintage cottons and linens, as well as elegant silver and crystal.
&Beyond Bateleur Camp
Situated in Kenya’s iconic Masai Mara, &Beyond Bateleur Camp will also receive a complete refurbishment over the coming months, with the brand new camp slated to reopen in March 2018. Spacious tented suites will retain the authenticity, intimacy and classic safari atmosphere that the camp is renowned for while including new details such as built-in daybeds set on spacious verandas, lighter interiors and convenient butler hatches. A stone courtyard will be accessed through the beautifully redesigned bathrooms.
A massage sala situated next to a tranquil water feature will be a brand new addition to the camp’s guest areas, while a well-equipped fitness centre will cater for active travellers. An elegant coffee and gin bar will take pride of place and the swimming pool areas will be accentuated with new decking idea for outdoor dining. A well-stocked Safari Shop will be on hand for a spot of retail therapy. A spacious family suite has been planned to cater for families travelling together.
