Meliá Hotels International (MHI) will manage Palma de Mallorca’s new conference centre, Palacio de Congresos de Palma as well as connecting hotel, Meliá Palma Bay, located on the promenade of Palma de Mallorca. The new conference and events facility will help position the city as a leader in MICE tourism, increasing demand and profitability. It will also attract people to Palma all year round, a strategic objective for MHI.
Designed by the prestigious architect Patxi Mangado, the new conference centre is ideally located on the sea front. It offers 6,365m² of meeting space and accommodates up to 3,100 delegates, with state of the art facilities including a 970m² Magna room. Meliá Palma Bay will have 268 rooms, a bar, restaurant, spa, additional meeting rooms and a swimming pool.
Melia Hotels International is Spain’s leading, and Europe’s third largest, hotel group which operates almost 200,000 m² of lounges and meeting and convention centres throughout the world. The group’s commercial strength and widespread presence in key MICE tourism markets makes them perfect for the role of managing this new and exciting project.
Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President at Meliá Hotels International, said: “We greatfully accept the responsibility of managing this new development in a successful and sustainable way, ensuring it becomes a key location for MICE in Europe.”
Meliá Hotels International will promote the city of Palma and the island of Mallorca as the preferred destination for meetings and conferences. To achieve this, MHI will use their strengths in the hotel “bleisure” industry to impliment a strong communcations strategy for the project in key markets.
