MGallery by Sofitel opens two heritage hotels in the UK

MGallery by Sofitel has recently opened two hotels situated in prestigious locations in the United Kingdom.

Making a mark on history: Castle Hotel Windsor

This newly refurbished hotel in the MGallery by Sofitel collection puts guests mere footsteps from Her Majesty the Queen’s favourite residence. The property is steeped in history: from the day it was built in 1528 as the Mermaid Inn, humbly brewing beer and cider for the people of Windsor, through to the first of the eight Royal Warrants awarded to the hotel in the 1700s to provide horses and carriages for the royal household – to the 19th century when Castle Hotel was unrivalled as the finest place to stay for miles around.

The minute guests pass through the hotel doors, their breath is taken away by opulent design and intricate attention to detail. The historic wallpaper, designed by Augustus Pugin and famous for adorning the Palace of Westminster, Pugin’s most famous project, dovetails perfectly with the hotel’s tastefully contemporary decor. And guests can rarely resist climbing the grand staircase to explore Queens Hotel’s 84 charming rooms.

An essential part of soaking up the hotel’s friendly atmosphere and charm is selecting a dish from one of the traditional menus, full of the finest fresh, local produce – or sipping a drink at the Sherborne Pump, the hotel’s stunningly ornate bar.
