Opening during the autumn of 2017, the hotel joins Hotel Indigo Berlin – Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo Berlin – Ku’damm in Germany’s culture capital.  The property will feature 119 rooms, a gym, a restaurant and a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace, and is within walking distance of Berlin’s Warschauer Strasse and Ostbahnhof train stations.

Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side will be located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, one of the most creative districts in Berlin, and surrounded by a lively cultural scene and popular entertainment options. The hotel will be part of Mercedes Platz, a complex located opposite the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Mercedes Platz, also owned by AEG, will feature numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000 capacity event hall and a state-of-the art movie theatre.  Its visitor numbers are projected to reach 20 million annually and the complex will open in 2018. Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side is set to become the heart and soul of the dynamically growing urban quarter along the East-Side-Gallery (remains of the Berlin wall).

René Schappner, Director of Development, Germany, IHG said, “The signing of this hotel emphasises IHG’s position as a clear market leader in the boutique hotel segment.  It’s fantastic to be expanding our Hotel Indigo brand in Berlin; a city with numerous vibrant and distinct neighbourhoods which make perfect hosts for this brand.  We’re also delighted to be signing our eighth deal as part of a multiple development agreement with Tristar and look forward, as always, to working with them on this exciting project.”

Michael Kötter, Vice President Real Estate & Development, AEG, said, “It was clear from day one that a boutique hotel was the smart choice for this location. IHG and Tristar are absolutely the right partners for the project and we’re delighted to be working with them both. With Tristar’s successful track record in hotel operations and the quality Hotel Indigo brand in place, this hotel will further strengthen the attractiveness of Mercedes Platz.”

Matthias Koerber, CEO of Tristar Hotel & Management said, “We look forward to bringing our established operational excellence – already being demonstrated at the nearby Holiday Inn® Berlin City – East Side to the new Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side.  Hotel Indigo is the ideal brand for the Mercedes Platz project.”

In 2014 IHG doubled its number of signings in Germany in comparison to 2013, signing twelve contracts with new and existing owner partners.  IHG plans to double the number of hotels in Germany either open or in the pipeline over the next five years. IHG currently has the largest active development pipeline in Germany’s branded hotel market with more than 4,400 rooms*.
