Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts recently appointed Sigi Bierbaumer as the new General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya with effect from September 2016. Prior to joining Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, he was the pre-opening (task force) General Manager of Shangri-La’s Hambantota Resort & Spa, Sri Lanka.
Bierbaumer, an Austrian national, has 37 years of hospitality experience, working in various positions within the hotel industry, including executive chef, director of food and beverage, resident manager and general manager. He has been with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts for 24 years, with a broad spectrum of hospitality experience of over three decades, Mr. Sigi has played a crucial role in operations, renovations, re-positioning and assisting in brand augmentation at Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipine, Thailand, China, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
He shares: “I’m delighted to be back in Surabaya, it was my home for quite a number of years in the past and it always has a special place in my heart, I find Surabaya people are very friendly.

He originally joined the group in 1992 as Executive Chef of the Shangri-La Golden Sands Resort in Penang.
