The Langham, Melbourne is pleased to announce the appointment of pastry chef, Christy Tania, as the hotel’s new Executive Pastry Chef.
Tania is one of Australia’s leading pastry chefs and has built up a cult following for those that admire her edible works of art that are renowned for both their whimsy and technical expertise. She’s best known for producing elegant, innovative desserts that push the boundaries of baking.
She attended the L’Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Patisserie and learnt from culinary masters Alain Ducasse and Yves Thuries before working in numerous fine dining restaurants such as the double Michelin Star L’Espadon within the legendary Ritz Hotel in Paris and the revered Guy Savoy in Singapore.
In Melbourne she has worked at award-winning establishments such as Jacques Reymond, Vue de Monde and Saké.
Most recently, Tania has been the Executive Head Pastry Chef at The Adelphi Hotel’s Om Nom Dessert Bar at which she received a chef’s hat in a record-setting time of two months.
She appeared on Network Ten’s high-rating MasterChef Australia television series and was the youngest Pastry Chef Judge to appear in the 2014 season of the much-loved show. Her mango alfonso dessert on MasterChef became an overnight hit.
“Being a pastry chef is like a second lease on life for me,” says Tania. “Before moving to Paris to study pastry, I had a corporate life working in business strategy, project management and change management in Singapore. I’m living proof that you can always keep learning and follow your passions,” explains Tania.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Christy to our team. Here at the hotel, she’ll have the opportunity to innovate, be imaginative, lead a tightly knit team and continue to raise the bar for pastry and desserts. Personally, I can’t wait to be a taste tester,” adds Ben Sington, Managing Director for The Langham, Melbourne.
Tania will oversee the pastry and dessert menus for the hotel’s in-room dining, the hotel’s catering operation, Aria Bar & Lounge and Melba Restaurant.
