Michael Schmid Appointed General Manager of Park Hyatt Mallorca

Michael SchmidHyatt has announced that Michael Schmid has been appointed as the new General Manager of Park Hyatt Mallorca, Spain. The Park Hyatt brand’s first resort in Europe opened on 1st June 2016 and marks the re-entry of Hyatt into Spain.

Schmid is a Swiss national, raised in Latin America and educated in Switzerland. He holds a Bachelor Degree in International Hospitality Management from the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne and joins Park Hyatt Mallorca from his latest assignment as General Manager of Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Costa Rica.

“I can’t wait to start in my new role and become part of an incredible team that has worked extremely hard in opening the first Park Hyatt resort in Europe,” said Schmid. “It has been a wonderful journey for me with Hyatt during the last couple of years. I have worked in unique destinations in several countries and across a variety of Hyatt’s top brands. I am very excited to bring my experience to my new assignment in Mallorca and I look forward to moving to the island with my family.”

Michael Schmid started his career with Hyatt in July 2004 as Assistant Director of Food & Beverage at the opening of Park Hyatt Zurich. In January 2007 he transferred to the Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow as Director of Food & Beverage. In 2009 and after two and a half years in Russia, Schmid moved to London to join Andaz London Liverpool Street as Director of Operations. From April 2012 he held the position of Hotel Manager at Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo before moving to Costa Rica to open Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort in his first assignment as General Manager.

After three years in Costa Rica, Schmid will be moving to Mallorca with his wife and his daughter as well as their new born baby girl.

Schmid will take over the leadership of Park Hyatt Mallorca as of 22nd June 2016 from John Beveridge, who will retire from his career after 34 years with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.
