Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort & Spa has welcomed Susan Phillips as the resort’s new Director of Spa. She joins the team with more than 17 years of experience in luxury resort and spa operations, management, and consulting, bringing invaluable knowledge and industry understanding to the Tucson resort’s spa operations.
As Director of Spa, Phillips will lead the spa, fitness, and tennis facilities at Westward Look; oversee the daily operations of the Sonoran Spa; manage staff; and ensure guest service excellence. In addition, Phillips will create beautiful spa services and enticing promotions for both resort guests and local clientele to enjoy.
Under Phillips’ direction, the Sonoran Spa interior will be refreshed; new treatments and services will be developed, taking advantage of the fresh ingredients available from the Spa Garden; and a Sonoran Spa Apothecary will be introduced to offer products based on local, desert botanicals.
“We have known Susan for more than 17 years and are thrilled that her expertise has led her back to Westward Look,” said David Yamada, General Manager of Westward Look. “Susan’s experience in the industry will no doubt be a valuable asset and we can’t wait to see what she does for the spa and overall wellness components we strive to integrate throughout the resort.”
Previously, Phillips held executive roles for three Auberge Resorts as Director of Spa & Wellness: Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil, Encantado Resort and Spa in Santa Fe, and Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa near San Diego. At each resort, Phillips directed and managed all aspects of spa and retail operations, fitness and wellness programming; staffing; training; and designing luxe spa services to satisfy the most discerning clientele.
Prior to those roles, Phillips was Retail Director at Enchantment Resort & Mii amo Spa in Sedona, Ariz., and later led the retail division for Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa and served as a Director of Retail position for El Monte Sagrado Resort & Spa in Taos, N.M.
A native of Long Island, New York, Phillips’ journey in hospitality began as a buyer, manager, and art dealer for fine Native American art galleries in Tucson. She later began providing authentic, high-quality Native American art and jewelry to resort boutiques, starting with Westward Look in 1999.
