The Residence Inn in Placentia, California, has appointed Courtney Russell as its new General Manager. Courtney transitioned from the finance to hospitality industry eight years ago when he joined the Marriott team as Assistant General Manager at SpringHill Suites Morgantown.
Courntey’s success led him to the General Manager position at the Holiday Inn Express in Teays Valley. Under his leadership, the hotel increased revenue three years in a row while maintaining high guest satisfaction scores and a strong average daily rate. Following a brief move to the Holiday Inn in Charleston, WV, where he served as General Manager, Courtney rejoined the Marriott team as general manager of SpringHill Suites Prince Frederick.
During his time in Prince Frederick, the hotel focused on developing strategies to maximize profits, increasing year-over-year group revenue by 28 percent. Courtney said he has found his real pride, though, in positively influencing his employees. He said he has dedicated himself to empowering the staff, improving overall morale and developing a winning team. This employee focus proved to be a great benefit while overseeing the hotel’s renovation, during which the hotel staff was able to maintain impressive guest satisfaction scores.
“I’m beyond excited to be moving to California to lead the Placentia hotel’s talented team,” said Courtney. “My hospitality roots began with Marriott, and I’m thrilled to be able to utilize my financial background and communication skills at a new Marriott brand.”
