Four Seasons Resort Nevis recently welcomed two new appointments within its Executive Management team: Ed Gannon, formerly the Nevis hotel’s Resort Manager, was promoted to General Manager in early December. The property also announced the arrival of Awet Sium as the new Resort Manager in mid-December.
Ed Gannon, General Manager
Prior to his appointment as General Manager in December 2014, Gannon was the Resort Manager at Four Seasons Resort Nevis. Before transferring to Nevis in June 2014, Gannon spent two years as the Hotel Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Austin. Prior to the Austin post, he was hotel manager at Rosewood’s Sand Hill property in Menlo Park, California. No stranger to island life, Gannon spent eight years working in exotic settings ranging from Rosewood Hotels and Resorts’ Jumby Bay, Antigua, to Caneel Bay, St. John, USVI, in the Caribbean. Gannon also served as resort manager for four years at Martha’s Vineyard’s Winnetu Oceanside Resort.
Different from many General Managers of the past, Gannon carved out his own career path from the kitchen to the executive office. Prior to his General Manager and Hotel/Resort Manager status, Gannon was executive chef at a variety of luxury properties and catering operations throughout Massachusetts, including Four Seasons Hotel Boston (1997-2003); The Catered Affair in Hingham (1996-1997) and The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine (1989-1992). During his three-year tenure as executive chef at The White Barn Inn, the hotel’s dining room attained AAA Five-Diamond status for the first time in its history.
Born in Miami, but a self proclaimed Tri-State native, Gannon earned his college degree at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Awet Sium, Resort Manager
A passionate hotelier from the beginning, Resort Manager Awet Sium knew early in his hospitality career that his goal was to land a leadership opportunity with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. He joined Four Seasons in 2012 as Hotel Manager for Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis and transferred to Four Seasons Hotel Boston in the same role in 2013. Sium, with his eye on Nevis and the Caribbean as one of his favourite destinations in the world, joined the Nevis team from Boston in late 2014.
Sium’s management career began in the Washington, DC area, where he served as front office manager and then a director of guest services. He later assumed greater responsibilities as rooms division and training manager and executive assistant manager, food and beverage, for two luxury resorts in Turks and Caicos. From there, Sium returned to the hustle and bustle of city life, assuming the position of assistant general manager for Hotel Monaco, a luxury hotel in both Washington, DC and Baltimore. Before coming on-board to Four Seasons, Sium was based in Florida as general manager for Vero Beach Hotel and Spa.
Sium is a graduate of Columbia Union College in Maryland. He speaks several languages including Tigrinya and Italian.
