Hilton names Tom Potter new Senior VP for Caribbean and Latin America

Tom Potter HiltonHilton Worldwide has announced the appointment of Tom Potter as senior vice president, Caribbean and Latin America. Potter takes the helm of the region’s owned and managed portfolio, while playing a key role in the company’s expansion plans throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

With more than 35 years with Hilton, Potter has had a front row seat to the company’s growth in Latin America. In his new role, he is focused on continuing this effort and being a driving force in the region’s success.

“Expanding our footprint in Latin America is one of our top priorities and I am committed to working closely with our development partners to keep this momentum going strong,” said Potter. “This growth, combined with leading innovations and best in class talent, will help keep Hilton at the forefront of the industry.”

Development of human talent is a focal point of Potter’s strategy in the Caribbean and Latin America, and he is working closely with the region’s human resources leaders so team members across the region are engaged, empowered and inspired. A number of initiatives are currently in place to support this effort, including programs that help attract, cultivate and motivate team members.

Potter is also committed to leading innovations and ensuring hotels and resorts throughout the Caribbean and Latin America provide the technology and products that best serve travellers to the region.

Most recently, Potter served as area vice president, Central and South America.  During this time, Potter was a crucial contributor to expanding the company’s presence in Latin America and while fulfilling this role, drove a number of momentous Hilton Worldwide openings spanning everything from focused service to luxury. Prior to this, Potter led the team responsible for the grand opening of the Hilton São Paulo Morumbi in 2002, where he then remained as general manager until 2006.

Since joining Hilton in 1979 at the front desk of the London Hilton, Potter has held several management positions throughout the globe, gaining experience in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Belgium and England.

Before joining Hilton, Potter spent one year in the food and beverage field. He studied hotel management at what is today, Bournemouth University in England, and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
