A chic new hotel brand is getting launched, and it’s set to attach itself to a half-dozen historic properties right off the bat. Journal Hotels Ñ a new label created by veteran hotelier Stephen Brandman along with the owners of the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel Ñ will soon begin managing six venues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Palm Springs, California and Chicago.
The Hollywood Roosevelt, the hallowed hangout that’s owned by Mr Brandman’s new partners Goodwin Gaw and David Chang, will become The Hollywood Roosevelt by Journal, Mr Brandman said.
The 90-year-old Tinseltwn haunt has boasted guests like Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Brad Pitt. Other locations coming under the Journal umbrella boast similarly impressive heritages. San Francisco’s Hotel G opened in 1909 and the Two Bunch Palms ResortÊand Spa in Desert Hot Springs, California, dates from 1930.
All of them will get the Òby JournalÓ re-branding Òin the next few weeks,Ó according to MrÊBrandman, who was co-founder and CEO of Thompson Hotels and Commune Hotels before he sold his stakes in the companies.
ÒWhile much of what we do is historic, we also do new builds, which will be occurring shortly with a project we are working on in New York,Ó said MrÊBrandman, adding that it is too soon to discuss details.
Expect more hotels in cities like London, Toronto, Miami and Washington DC, Mr Brandman said. With new-construction hotels, the new brand’s name will come to the fore Ñ Journal Miami, for example.
