Fresh off a $55 million renovation, W Fort Lauderdale unveiled its new look to the world this afternoon on Tuesday, November 28 with the debut of theÊW Hotels Drone Dash. In a brand first, the tech-centric event centred around a drone relay race, bringing W guests and worldwide viewers a dynamic first look at the newly reimagined property both inside and out. W Hotels, part of Marriott International broadcasted the raceÊLIVEÊto millions of followers on Facebook in partnership with M Live, Marriott’s Global Marketing Command Center. Racing drones, piloted by Expert Drones’ nationally ranked pilots Thomas Wilke, Chase Waddle, Cody Wright and Chet Jones, showed off more than a bird’s eye view.

The track scaled all 24 floors of W Fort Lauderdale running through the hotel’s nautical oasis inside to the spectacular views and expansive outdoor spaces stories high. The race was narrated byÊWhat’s Trending‘s Shira Lazar andÊExpert Drones‘ Joyce Wicker, giving viewers a real-time insider’s guide to both the hotel and the high-speed race. In addition to the aerial action, the first-ever event included live interviews with the hotel’s W Insider and drone team captains and showcased the property’s mixologists and Talent in action while the drones dropped in on the party to deliver a refreshing cocktail, and climaxed with a toast to cheers the finish line winner. The signature cocktail delivered via drone during the event offered a true taste of the action; The Troublemaker (vodka, Bonal, strawberries, cucumbers, club soda.)
