InterContinental Resort Shimao Wonderland (Shanghai/China)
Due in 2017, this hotel is being carved into the edge of an abandoned quarry. Its 380 rooms scale down a steep cliff face to a 90-meter-deep lagoon. Some levels of the property will be below water.
Poseidon Undersea Resort (Fiji Island)
Speaking of below water… this whole resort will be under the waterline. “Poseidon” was a former US Marine facility for submarines that is being converted to offer 77 suites and luxurious rooms, as well as a library, spa, bar, restaurant and event space. Opening is scheduled for end of 2017.
Lofoten Opera Hotel (Lofoten/Norway)
In the wildly-romantic, but somewhat cool Lofoten, an unusual snake-shaped design hotel with close to eleven thousand square meters floor area will arise by Autumn 2018. So far not all details for the “Lofoten Opera Hotel” are known, but with its Opernauditorium modeled round shape, water basins and an extravagant outdoor program, the hotel will be unique.
Royal Atlantis Resorts & Residences (Dubai/United Arab Emirates)
Kerzner International is making a big investment in the 1,050-room resort “Royal Atlantis” in Dubai. It includes 800 guest rooms, 250 luxury apartments and a 90-meter infinity pool with panoramic view to rival the one in Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Opening should be in the fall 2018.
Dawang Mountain Resort (Changsha/China)
In the metropolis of Changsha in China, a “Mountain Resort” with 336 rooms and suites and exceptional recreational facilities such as an indoor ski centre and water park will arise by the spring of 2016.
